S.O.U.L. Uganda is a not-for-profit organization founded in 2009 by 23-year-old Brooke Stern, witth the mission to support and create opportunities for Ugandans to learn and improve their quality of life. It was founded in response to the people of Uganda's optimism, courage and overwhleming desire to learn. Through sustainable partnerships and business cooperatives, S.O.U.L. Uganda is laying the foundation for smart community development in Bujagali Falls Village. This organization is unique in it's approach to empowerment through education.
The most powerful means to improve the quality of one's life is through education, both in and out of the classroom. Education is the most potent weapon against poverty and intolerance. Learning enables people to live with dignity and purpose. The women of Uganda are the key to their communities' accomplishments and ultimate long-term success. An educated girl is an educated nation.
"Yes we saw hunger, but we also saw thirst; thirst for knowledge, thirst for a better tomorrow, thirst for the opportunity to lift themselves out of grinding poverty"
Brooke Stern Founder, S.O.U.L. Uganda

The Yoga Sanctuary Fish Pond - A Women's Micro-Finance Project |
S.O.U.L. Foundation is partnering with the women of Uganda to create Tilapia Fish Ponds in the village of Malindi. The eleven members from our previous group have excelled in Fish Farming and will be the teachers for the new village project. $8,000 will be loaned to the women of Malindi Village. The funds account for the tools, the fish, fish food, professional guidance from the Fisheries Office, fishing nets, scales, medicine, etc. By contributing to this project, the women benefit in numerous ways:
-
they gain new skills and knowledge
-
they increase food security for their families
-
they are exposed to business opportunities
-
they learn responsibility and take pride in their ability to pay back their loans
-
they are empowered through the profits earned
The Yoga Sanctuary is sponsoring one of these fish ponds and is committed to helping raise $8,000 through special events, classes, individual contributions and the sale of hand-made products by the women of Uganda. Click on the YouTube link below to see photos of this exciting project.
